Helix Hoops

For your helix hoop, an inner diameter of 8 to 10 mm is a common starting point, adjusted to suit your ear. Our hypoallergenic titanium hoops bring curves to your cartilage: a fine line for everyday wear, or a light-catching detail to give your ear stack character.

I wear them 24/7 and nothing has changed. No change in colour, nothing broken, nothing at all.

    Your helix questions

Which diameter should I choose for my helix hoop?

These guidelines are for choosing jewellery after your piercing has healed; your anatomy and the existing thickness of your piercing remain key factors.

    Size guide - helix
Jewellery / measurementGuideChoosing the right fit
Hoop 8 to 10 mm inner diameter6 mm may suit a piercing very close to the edge, once the fit has been checked.
Post thickness Depending on your existing piercing thickness, often 1.2 mmDo not confuse thickness with inner diameter.
Decorative detail and fastening Depending on the designThe decorative detail must have enough space, and the fastening must remain accessible.

Measure the diameter inside the hoop and the wearable length of the post without the end. Jewellery that pinches or pulls should be reassessed with your piercer.

For more guidance, see our helix guide.

    Avril · 10 mm

Design shown in a gold-tone finish.

We like Avril for its line of crystals: the 8 mm size sits closer to the edge, while the 10 mm size leaves more room. The result depends on your ear; either way, the hoop should feel comfortable without pinching.

Measure across the centre of the circle, between the inner edges. The outer diameter includes the metal and is not the listed size.

Print at 100%. Check the 50 mm line, then compare with a hoop that already fits you.

When can I replace my stud with a helix hoop?

Wait until your piercing has fully healed and have your piercer confirm this before changing jewellery for a different look. An ear that looks settled on the surface may still be fragile inside. Downsizing the post during healing is an adjustment carried out by your piercer, different from changing to decorative jewellery. The jewellery in this selection is for healed piercings.

How do I insert or remove a helix hoop?

First, identify the fastening on the product page. With a clicker, open only the hinged section, then close it without forcing it; do not distort the hoop. If access is difficult, the jewellery resists or the movement hurts, ask your piercer to insert or remove it.

Find the steps in our guide to inserting and removing a helix hoop.

Should my helix hoop fit tightly?

It can follow the contour of your cartilage, but must not pinch it or leave a pressure mark. If you're deciding between two diameters, have your ear measured: a close fit should still feel comfortable.

How long does a helix piercing take to heal?

Cartilage generally takes 6 to 9 months, sometimes longer, to heal. Time alone is not enough to decide when to switch to a hoop. Find advice on sleeping and aftercare in the helix piercing FAQ.

Are your hoops made from hypoallergenic titanium?

Our piercing jewellery is made from hypoallergenic titanium. Our jewellery has undergone laboratory testing. You'll find the material, finish and dimensions on each product page to help you choose your piece with confidence.

    Should I choose a gold-tone or silver-tone hoop?

Gold-tone brings warmth to your ear stack; the white-gold-coloured finish gives it bright, light reflections with a chrome-like appearance. This describes the colour: the base material is still titanium. A styling tip: bluish or purplish veins may point towards cool tones, while greenish veins may point towards gold-tone. It's a styling guide, not a rule: try both near your face in natural light.

How do I clean my helix hoop?

For jewellery removed from a healed piercing, clean gently with lukewarm water and mild soap, then rinse and dry thoroughly. Avoid abrasive products and stiff brushes on the decorative detail. If your piercing is still healing, leave the jewellery in place and follow your piercer's aftercare advice.

Building an ear stack with a helix hoop

On a double helix, two fine curves can follow the cartilage's edge. You can also alternate a hoop with a light-catching design to let each piece stand out.

A diameter suited to the edge of your ear

The diameter depends on the distance between the piercing hole and the edge of the cartilage, rather than simply how high it sits on your ear. Our FAQ guidelines help you compare sizes; your piercer can confirm the fit before you switch to a hoop.

Pair your helix hoop with another detail from our ear piercing jewellery collection to create a look that feels like you.
