    Your tragus questions

Which diameter should I choose for my tragus hoop?

These guidelines are for choosing jewellery after your piercing has healed; your anatomy and the existing thickness of your piercing remain key factors.

    Size guide - tragus
Jewellery / measurementGuideChoosing the right fit
Hoop 6 to 8 mm inner diameterIt should sit around the tragus without pinching it.
Post thickness Depending on your existing piercing thickness, often 1.2 mmDo not confuse thickness with inner diameter.
Decorative detail and fastening Depending on the designThe decorative detail must have enough space, and the fastening must remain accessible.

Measure the diameter inside the hoop and the wearable length of the post without the end. Jewellery that pinches or pulls should be reassessed with your piercer.

For more guidance, see our tragus guide.

Measure across the centre of the circle, between the inner edges. The outer diameter includes the metal and is not the listed size.

Measure a labret between its back and its decorative front. At the tragus, also leave space near the ear opening and check how it sits with your earphones.

Print at 100%. Check the 50 mm line, then compare with a hoop that already fits you.

When can I replace my stud with a tragus hoop?

Wait until your piercing has fully healed and have your piercer confirm this before changing jewellery for a different look. An ear that looks settled on the surface may still be fragile inside. Downsizing the post during healing is an adjustment carried out by your piercer, different from changing to decorative jewellery. The jewellery in this selection is for healed piercings.

How do I insert or remove a tragus hoop?

First, identify the fastening on the product page. With a clicker, open only the hinged section, then close it without forcing it; do not distort the hoop. If access is difficult, the jewellery resists or the movement hurts, ask your piercer to insert or remove it.

Should my tragus hoop fit tightly?

It can follow the contour of your cartilage, but must not pinch it or leave a pressure mark. If you're deciding between two diameters, have your ear measured: a close fit should still feel comfortable.

How long does a tragus piercing take to heal?

Cartilage generally takes 6 to 9 months, sometimes longer, to heal. Time alone is not enough to decide when to switch to a hoop. Find advice on sleeping and aftercare in the tragus piercing FAQ.

Are your hoops made from hypoallergenic titanium?

Our piercing jewellery is made from hypoallergenic titanium. Our jewellery has undergone laboratory testing. You'll find the material, finish and dimensions on each product page to help you choose your piece with confidence.

    Should I choose a gold-tone or silver-tone hoop?

Gold-tone brings warmth to your ear stack; the white-gold-coloured finish gives it bright, light reflections with a chrome-like appearance. This describes the colour: the base material is still titanium. A styling tip: bluish or purplish veins may point towards cool tones, while greenish veins may point towards gold-tone. It's a styling guide, not a rule: try both near your face in natural light.

How do I clean my tragus hoop?

For jewellery removed from a healed piercing, clean gently with lukewarm water and mild soap, then rinse and dry thoroughly. Avoid abrasive products and stiff brushes on the decorative detail. If your piercing is still healing, leave the jewellery in place and follow your piercer's aftercare advice.

A touch of light at the tragus

Space is more limited at the tragus: a well-proportioned hoop is enough to add a detail near your face. Crystal detailing catches the eye; a smooth finish pairs easily with an ear stack that already has plenty of detail at the lobe or helix.

Choosing its place in your ear stack

The tragus sits in front of the entrance to the ear canal. Look at your whole ear from the front to choose the size of the decorative detail, then try the combination in the Solstice Ear Stack Builder.
