    Your daith questions

What size should I choose for my daith piercing?

Here are some guidelines for choosing jewellery for a healed piercing, adapted to your ear. Your piercer determines the dimensions for initial piercing jewellery.

    Size guide - daith
Jewellery / measurementGuideChoosing the right fit
Hoop Often 8 to 10 mm inner diameterYour anatomy may require a larger diameter.
Post thickness 1.2 mmThickness of the jewellery in this selection; have its suitability for your piercing checked.
Decorative detail and fastening Check each designThe decorative detail must not press against the cartilage; the fastening must suit the placement.

A hoop's diameter is measured on the inside; a post's wearable length is measured between its functional ends, excluding the decorative detail. Compare it with jewellery that already fits you and have the measurement confirmed if you're unsure.

For more information, see our daith guide.

Download the hoop sizing template (A4 PDF)
Print at 100%. Check the 50 mm line, then compare with a hoop that already fits you.

What type of jewellery suits a daith piercing?

A hoop is the usual choice for a daith piercing: its curve follows the inner fold of the ear. You can also discuss a horseshoe barbell with your piercer. A straight labret stud is not suitable for this placement. For your ear stack, choose a plain hoop for a delicate look, or a light-catching detail to highlight the centre.

How long does a daith piercing take to heal?

Allow 6 to 9 months, sometimes longer, for this cartilage piercing to heal. The time depends on your ear, snagging and everyday pressure. Being pain-free does not confirm that it has healed: your piercer can check its progress before you change the jewellery.

As it sits inside the ear, a daith may be less exposed to hair snagging and external contact than a helix. Avoiding earbuds that touch it also helps limit friction. This may help healing progress without irritation, but does not guarantee a shorter healing time.

How painful is a daith piercing?

Getting your daith pierced can cause a sharp sting and a feeling of pressure. The intensity varies greatly from person to person: no score out of ten can predict how it will feel for you.

Arriving relaxed and choosing a piercer who explains the procedure can help make the experience more manageable. Take time to share any concerns with them before the piercing.

When can I change my initial daith jewellery?

Wait until your daith is fully healed before replacing your initial jewellery with a decorative design. Even if your ear is no longer red or tender, the piercing may still be fragile inside.

If you're unsure, ask your piercer to confirm that it has healed before changing your jewellery. Our jewellery is designed for already healed piercings.

When can I sleep on my daith piercing?

While your daith is healing, avoid sleeping directly on it as much as possible to limit pressure and irritation. A pillow with a hole can be a useful way to keep pressure off your ear.

Once the piercing has healed, you can sleep on it if it feels comfortable and does not put excessive pressure on the jewellery.

I've just had my daith pierced: how can I support healing and avoid complications?

Wash your hands before aftercare. Clean with a sterile wound-care saline solution containing 0.9 % sodium chloride, then dry gently with a clean disposable gauze pad, preferably non-woven. Choose this rather than cotton wool or cotton buds to reduce fibres that can catch on the jewellery.

Do not rotate the jewellery, and minimise handling, pressure and snagging. Avoid sleeping on the piercing while it heals, as well as alcohol and irritating products. Gentle aftercare supports healing; doing it more often does not speed up the process.

If pain increases, redness spreads or you develop a fever, seek medical advice promptly.

Can I wear earbuds with a daith piercing?

Avoid earbuds that touch the jewellery while the piercing is healing. Afterwards, comfort depends on their shape, the hoop's diameter and your ear. An earbud that pushes against the hoop is not suitable, even when the piercing has healed.

What material do you use? Is your piercing jewellery hypoallergenic?

Our piercing jewellery is made from hypoallergenic titanium. Our jewellery has undergone laboratory testing. You'll find the material, finish and dimensions on each product page to help you choose your piece with confidence.

Should I choose the gold-tone or silver-tone finish?

Gold-tone brings warmth to your ear stack; the white-gold-coloured finish gives it bright, light reflections with a chrome-like appearance. This describes the colour: the base material is still titanium. A styling tip: bluish or purplish veins may point towards cool tones, while greenish veins may point towards gold-tone. It's a styling guide, not a rule: try both near your face in natural light.

Can I shower or exercise wearing your jewellery?

Yes, for healed piercings. Our titanium jewellery is resistant to rust and highly resistant to tarnishing. Its EverGold coating is designed to help preserve its shine and colour over time with everyday wear.

After showering or exercising, rinse your jewellery if necessary and dry it thoroughly. For activities where jewellery could snag or be pulled, choose a suitable jewellery arrangement.

Can I return jewellery if I don't like how it looks on me?

You have 30 days after receipt to request a return.

Can I wear your jewellery to sleep?

Yes, in a healed piercing and with well-fitting jewellery. The jewellery must not cause pressure or discomfort during the night. While the piercing is healing, avoid sleeping directly on it.

Why choose titanium rather than 925 silver or stainless steel?

Hypoallergenic and nickel-free, our titanium is laboratory-tested. It is resistant to the darkening associated with 925 silver, resistant to rust and highly resistant to tarnishing. It is designed to retain its shine over time with everyday wear, including showering or exercising, when worn in healed piercings. After swimming in the sea, rinse your jewellery with fresh water and dry it thoroughly.

How do I build an ear stack with a daith piercing?

A daith naturally draws the eye to the centre of the ear. If you choose an intricate hoop, let it become the focal point of your ear stack and keep the surrounding jewellery more delicate.

At the lobe, you can start with a hoop earring, then add a small stud to create a progression in size. A subtle piece at the tragus or helix can then balance the look.

We generally advise against combining a rook and a daith on the same ear. Depending on your anatomy and the size of the jewellery, they may get in each other's way or overlap visually.

To keep your ear stack balanced, avoid adding too many statement pieces to the same ear. Instead, echo some of the shapes, stones or details already featured in your daith jewellery.

You can try your combinations directly in our Solstice Ear Stack Builder or take inspiration from our ear stacks.

    Daith hoop jewellery

A hoop adds rounded shapes and dimension to your ear stacks. A delicate design pairs easily with your everyday jewellery; a more intricate shape or a few crystals bring light to the centre of the ear. Choose the decorative detail with the space around the fold in mind.

Fastenings vary between designs. A clicker has a hinged section; other hoops use a different system. The product page gives the mechanism and dimensions. Ask for help fitting the jewellery if access is difficult.

    What about a horseshoe barbell?

A horseshoe barbell is an open ring with two ends. It creates a more open look and may suit some daith piercings. This is a shape to discuss with a piercer; our selection above shows the jewellery Solstice actually offers.

    What is a daith piercing?

A daith passes through the small fold of cartilage at the entrance to the ear canal. It sits further inside the ear than a helix and is distinct from the rook, which is above it. The depth and shape of the fold vary: an assessment by your piercer will help determine whether this placement suits you.
