    Your lobe piercing questions

What size should I choose for my lobe jewellery?

Here are some guidelines for choosing jewellery for a healed piercing, adapted to your ear. Your piercer determines the dimensions for initial piercing jewellery.

    Size guide
Jewellery / measurementGuideChoosing the right fit
Small, close-fitting hoop Often 6 to 8 mm inner diameterFor a piercing close to the edge; check that it is not tight.
Looser-fitting hoop Often 8 to 12 mm, or largerDepending on the distance to the edge and the volume you want.
Stud / labret Often 6 to 8 mm wearable lengthMeasure according to your lobe’s thickness.
Post thickness Depending on your piercing and the jewelleryA standard earring post may be thinner than a 1.2 mm labret post.

Measure a hoop’s diameter on the inside, and a post’s wearable length between its functional ends, excluding the decorative element. Compare with jewellery that already fits you and have the measurement confirmed if you are unsure.

For more advice, see our lobe guide.

We like a slightly larger hoop in the first lobe piercing, with more delicate jewellery above it. This is a styling idea to adapt to each piercing’s distance from the edge.

Download the hoop sizing template (A4 PDF)
Print at 100%. Check the 50 mm line, then compare with a hoop that already fits you.

What type of jewellery suits the lobe?

The lobe suits studs, hoops and jewellery with chains. A small stud looks subtle in a second or third piercing; a hoop adds volume lower down. Pay particular attention to post thickness: 1.2 mm piercing jewellery will not automatically fit a piercing made for a thinner earring.

How long does a lobe piercing take to heal?

A lobe piercing generally takes at least 6 to 8 weeks, sometimes longer, to heal. A piercing high on the lobe, close to the cartilage, may take more time. Keep your initial piercing jewellery in place and have your piercer confirm healing before changing it.

    Does a lobe piercing hurt?

The piercing procedure may cause a brief pinch followed by tenderness. Everyone experiences it differently; it is generally less intense than a cartilage piercing. A professional can explain the procedure and help you prepare.

When can I change my initial lobe piercing jewellery?

Wait until your piercing has fully healed and have your piercer confirm this before changing jewellery for a different look. An ear that looks settled on the surface may still be fragile inside. Downsizing the post during healing is an adjustment carried out by your piercer, different from changing to decorative jewellery. The jewellery in this selection is for healed piercings.

When can I sleep on my lobe piercing?

Avoid sleeping directly on this piercing while it heals. A pillow with a hole, with your ear resting in the opening, may reduce pressure. Afterwards, only resume if the contact feels comfortable: even with a healed piercing, jewellery must not press into your ear during the night.

How should I care for a lobe piercing?

Wash your hands before aftercare. Use a sterile saline wound wash containing 0.9 % sodium chloride, then gently dry with a clean disposable gauze pad. Do not rotate the jewellery, and avoid alcohol, essential oils and friction. If pain increases, redness spreads or you develop a fever, seek medical advice promptly.

Can I wear piercing jewellery in my second or third lobe piercing?

Yes, absolutely: our jewellery is designed to let you build your ear stack freely, from your first to your third healed lobe piercing. Choose the shapes and volumes you love, with a post suited to your piercing.

Why choose titanium rather than 925 silver or stainless steel?

Hypoallergenic and nickel-free, our titanium is laboratory-tested. It is resistant to the darkening associated with 925 silver, resistant to rust and highly resistant to tarnishing. It is designed to retain its shine over time with everyday wear, including showering or exercising, when worn in healed piercings. After swimming in the sea, rinse your jewellery with fresh water and dry it thoroughly.

Should I choose the gold-tone or silver-tone finish?

Gold-tone brings warmth to your ear stack; the white-gold-coloured finish gives it bright, light reflections with a chrome-like appearance. This describes the colour: the base material is still titanium. A styling tip: bluish or purplish veins may point towards cool tones, while greenish veins may point towards gold-tone. It's a styling guide, not a rule: try both near your face in natural light.

What is the difference between our stud earrings and our piercing studs?

Lobe piercings are often narrower than cartilage piercings. Our stud earrings therefore have 0.8 mm posts, compared with 1.2 mm for our piercing studs, to suit as many people as possible.

Can I shower or exercise wearing your jewellery?

Yes, for healed piercings. Our titanium jewellery is resistant to rust and highly resistant to tarnishing. Its EverGold coating is designed to help preserve its shine and colour over time with everyday wear.

After showering or exercising, rinse your jewellery if necessary and dry it thoroughly. For activities where jewellery could snag or be pulled, choose a suitable jewellery arrangement.

Can I return jewellery if I don't like how it looks on me?

You have 30 days after receipt to request a return.

Why is titanium a better choice for sensitive ears?

Our titanium is hypoallergenic and contains no nickel, making it a suitable choice for sensitive ears.

Can I wear your jewellery to sleep?

Yes, in a healed piercing and with well-fitting jewellery. The jewellery must not cause pressure or discomfort during the night. While the piercing is healing, avoid sleeping directly on it.

Any tips for creating a beautiful ear stack?

Start with a bolder piece in your first piercing, then choose more delicate jewellery for the next ones. You can also play with lengths, for example a hoop, a chain in the middle, then a small stud.

Finally, echo shapes, stones or details across your jewellery to keep your ear stack harmonious.

I only have one lobe piercing. How can I create an ear stack?

Choose a piece that adds volume, such as the large Soline hoop, then complete the look with our non-piercing jewellery. An ear cuff at the conch adds a point of light in the middle of your ear without another piercing.

How should I care for my piercing jewellery and earrings?

After removing your jewellery, clean it with lukewarm water and a little mild soap, rinse, then dry with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive products and cosmetics.

Jewellery to wear in your lobe

The lobe offers plenty of space for different types of jewellery. Some pieces are subtle and delicate, while others are more distinctive and creative. So which jewellery should you choose for your lobe piercing?

    Studs

Small in size (rarely more than 6 to 8 mm long), a piercing stud is subtle and timeless. It brings a light, delicate touch to your ear.

Stud designs may use a labret post or a straight barbell. They generally consist of a straight post (in titanium, gold or stainless steel) and a decorative end, giving you plenty of scope to express your style.

You can choose between two types of studs: designs set with stones described as zircon or cubic zirconia, or designs described as finished with fine 18-carat gold, without crystals. The first option is ideal if you love classic, sparkling jewellery with a feminine feel.

    Chains, a contemporary jewellery choice

Distinctive yet modern, a piercing chain is a popular styling accessory. It fits this year’s trends and adds dimension to your ear. It is generally attached between a piercing in the middle of the lobe and one in the cartilage, at the helix.

    Hoop piercing jewellery

Hoops worn in the lobe can vary greatly in size. It all depends on your piercings!

A lobe hoop brings softness to your ear stack. It is often paired with small studs for contrast and a beautiful mismatched effect. Feel free to play with sizes and vary the thicknesses.

    Earrings

A timeless jewellery choice, an earring is a staple worn in the lower lobe. Here too, there are many options: geometric earrings, a small hoop, a labret
 Surgical steel, titanium, gold, silver

The term “earrings” covers all jewellery worn in the lobe. Follow your instinct and express yourself by wearing jewellery you love!

How can I build an ear stack with a lobe piercing?

Choosing between a hoop, a chain and a stud? The lobe lets you combine them. Place a slightly bolder piece in your first piercing, then reduce the volume as you move upwards: a curve, a small motif, a point of light. This keeps your layered look light.

A chain adds movement and visually connects two compatible pieces. It can stay on the lobe or reach a helix piercing if its length and attachments allow. Leave it hanging loosely: that freedom creates its beautiful movement.

To extend your ear stack, a small piece of tragus jewellery or conch jewellery echoes the pieces below. You can keep one finish throughout or mix touches of gold-tone and white-gold-coloured finishes. Your taste matters more than a colour rule or the number of piercings you have.

Visualise your combinations in the Solstice Ear Stack Builder and explore our ear stacks to find your starting point. You can try combinations, move pieces and refine the proportions before choosing your jewellery.
